How about taking on a challenge that you've always wanted to do? Or organising a fun sponsorship event with friends? Well, now you have a reason to go for it!

Raising funds through a sponsored event can be enjoyable and very rewarding. By involving friends, family and school or work colleagues in your event can raise a lot more than on your own. Most people willingly give money to support their friends and acknowledge their hard work, as well as to support a worthy cause.

A whole range of activities can be sponsored. Here a few sponsorship ideas to fuel your imagination, followed by a step-by-step guide to making your event a great success.

Sponsored sports events like walks, swims or bike rides are always popular, not only because they are easy to organise, but also because lots of people at varying levels of fitness can take part. Ask your local sports store or centre to come on board, they may let you use their facilities for free. If you don’t want to organise your own event, you could enter yourself or a team into a national event, such as the Flora London Marathon, the Great North Run or the Hydra Active Women's Challenge.

Bowl-athon, Dance-athon, Play-a-musical-instrument-athon, Read-a-thon! You can add "-athon" to just about anything for individual or great group events! If you've a special skill this may be the time for it to come to the fore!

Everyday tasks can be brilliant fundraisers too. Sponsored weight-loss diets are a popular choice. You can always find people who want to try and give up smoking, or drinking, or chocolate, etc, the list goes on. What better way to give up your vices than to get a team of people together to support each other AND raise money in sponsorship for Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide at the same time?

Get sponsored to glam-up for the day, or dare to style your hair differently for a day for sponsorship.

How about trying something a bit more dramatic, like sponsored sky-diving or abseiling? Or how would your local football team feel about a sponsored leg wax?

Challenge a rival work department or school team to a friendly lunchtime football or darts charity match, with spectators and players paying to take part.

Get sponsored to tie yourself to a friend or colleague!

You may already have a particular talent or hobby, which could be sponsored.

Sponsor forms

You'll probably want to create your own fundraising webpage [see link to 'Create your page' in the left hand menu], but if you also want a sponsorship form you can download one by clicking the grey button below. You can add your name, your event and the event date at the top of the form.

SPONSOR FORM TOP TIP: Try to get a really generous donation on the top line of your sponsorship form, since most people who sponsor you will use this as a benchmark.

Making your event a success - step-by-step guide

We've prepared a step-by-step guide of tips and information to help with creating a successful event. To download our guide click the grey button below.

We can also send leaflets, again please ask us at or via any of the other means at the bottom of the page.

DON'T FORGET... to send your completed sponsorship forms to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide after you have completed the event (address at bottom of this page). This will enable us to claim Gift Aid on the donations you have raised from those who have ticked the 'Gift Aid' column. This is at no cost to you or your sponsors, and it means that we can claim an extra 25% from HMRC on the Gift Aid donations - adding significantly to the total you have raised.

Every penny you raise will help to save lives in low-income countries.

800 mothers die in childbirth and pregnancy every day, almost all of them in poor countries. 80% of these deaths are preventable. All five of the major causes of maternal mortality – haemorrhage, sepsis, unsafe abortion, hypertensive disorders and obstructed labour – can be treated at a well-staffed, well-equipped health facility.

Your fundraising will help us to supply equipment and training to save lives. Thank you.
