You could make an impact on anaesthesia provision in poor countries just by giving an hour of your salary a month. This will help some of the most disadvantaged communities to have a lifeline to proper anaesthesia and life-saving operations that they may not otherwise receive.
How does it work?
You can use Payroll Giving if:
• you are an employee and you get paid weekly or monthly through PAYE, or
• you get a company and/or personal pension and your provider deducts tax through PAYE.
Payroll giving is simple and easy to use for you and your employer (or PAYE administrator) as all the work is done by HMRC-appointed agencies. Agency charities charge between 0-4 % per donation to cover their costs. Some employers pay this charge on behalf of their employees.
Donations made through the scheme are taken from your gross pay. This means that for every £1 you give, it will only cost you 80p (60p if you pay the higher tax rate). The taxman will pay the charity the difference! So your donation effectively costs you less and we receive more.
This means that a payroll donation of £10 is worth £12.50 to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide, for a standard-rate taxpayer. Or a payroll donation of £20 means that Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide will receive £33.33, for a high-rate taxpayer. (The figures are without agency admin fees being applied.)
To get things underway simply approach your payroll department. They will almost certainly already be registered with an approved payroll giving agency. If they aren't, here is a list of HMRC-approved agencies http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/businesses/giving/payroll_agencies.htm
If you ever want to vary the amount of your donation, stop payments or change any aspect of your gift, simply inform your payroll department and they will amend your details.

In low income countries, overcrowded hospitals and maternity wards, with inadequate resources and unsuitable equipment, leave the dedicated doctors and nurses struggling to help patients. The result is many preventable deaths each year. Making a regular donation to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide will help patients to receive the treatment they desperately need. Thank you.
