After providing for your family and friends you may wish to leave a charitable gift in your Will. Regardless of the size, a legacy gift to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide will help us to make a lasting difference to the lives of many people.
For example, £15,000 would provide a robust anaesthetic system to a hospital in a poor country. If used for just one Caesarean section per day (a very conservative estimate) over 5 years this would save a total of 3,650 lives (mothers plus babies) at a cost of just £4 per life.
SAWW works to ensure safe anaesthesia is available to everyone who needs it. As a result, we make a meaningful difference to the lives of people in poor countries who might not otherwise receive the surgical treatment they need for lack of anaesthesia.
We always recommend that you use a solicitor to make or update your Will. If you don't already have one, you might consider a solicitor who has helped you previously, or you can ask the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioner (STEP) who can provide a list of solicitors who have experience in drawing up Wills. You can contact them on 0207 340 0500 or at email@example.com . Or visit their website at http://www.step.org and select Member Search from the top menu, where you can search for a STEP member solicitor in your area, by entering your town or postcode and ticking the 'Will Writer' option.
How to word your legacy
A solicitor will advise you on how to word your legacy. You may wish to leave a gift of a specific sum of money, or an item of value, or a percentage or the entire residue of your estate. It is important to include our charity’s full name, address and registered charity number, which is: Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide, White Lyon House, Marden, Kent, TN12 9DR, UK. Registered charity number 1148254
If you have already made a Will, but you want to leave a legacy to a charity you can make an addition or change it without re-writing your current Will. This addition is called a codicil. You can download a codicil form here and take it along to your solicitor. Please note however that this form is not legally binding on its own and has to be part of your main Will. We advise you to seek the advice of a solicitor. To download the codicil form please click the yellow button on the left. Please note: DO NOT attach this form to your Will with anything, no staple, paperclip, etc.
If you have the opportunity to let us know that you've remembered SAWW in your Will or a codicil, we would be very grateful to hear from you. It is entirely up to you how much or little information you provide, and it places you under no obligation to let us know of a legacy pledge. You can let us know by completing a Pledge Form and returning it to us. To download the form please click the red button on the right.
If you are a member of a company pension scheme you can complete an 'expression of wish' form to benefit SAWW. In the event of your death, part or all of the life insurance benefit will be paid to your chosen beneficiaries. The 'expression of wish' form notifies the trustees of your policy of your wishes. It is simple to do with no legal complications. However, not all company pension schemes are set up to do this, so you need to check with your employer.
For other ways to donate and fundraise, see the list on the left of this page
In developing countries many women and babies die as a result of obstructed labour, yet they could be easily saved by caesarean sections if medical facilities with safe anaesthesia were available.
You can provide this by leaving a legacy to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide. Just one machine will enable thousands of caesarean sections, as well as other essential operations, to be carried out every year, saving tens of thousands of lives over its lifetime.
Click on this blue button below to download a codicil. You will need to take this form to your solicitor. Do NOT attach this form to your Will.
